Sydney Seaplanes
Overview
Rose Bay on Sydney’s iconic harbour is the site of Australia's first International Airport. In the 1930s and 40s, the sea plane trip from Sydney to London took more than five days. The last of the Catalina flying boats departed Rose Bay in 1977.
Sydney Seaplanes still operates a fleet of smaller modern seaplanes from modest facilities in Rose Bay on the site of the original flying boat base. Sydney Sea Planes operate daily express service seaplane flights to Newcastle, scenic flights over Sydney Harbour and to the Hunter Valley.
Crossley Architects were commissioned by Sydney Seaplanes to design a new base, offices and museum. With the rich history of flying boats at Rose Bay, the museum is an extremely important part of the facility.
Construction of the new seaplane base was completed at the end of 2016.
